Research and Knowledge Center
The space will resemble a researcher’s study will include an art installation reminiscent of 19th century art and decoration – including letters, other paraphernalia and decorations of Mr. Barkat Ali himself, as well as technical equipment like astrolabes etc. The library would focus on science, mathematics and philosophy- specifically on publications, books and research of the contributions of Islamic scholars, leading up to the present of what current Pakistani and Middle eastern + south asian scientists have contributed.
The space will have access to global databases, as well as digitised versions of publications. Most importantly the library will hold a bi-monthly conversation series with contemporary Pakistani / South Asian and Diaspora scientists who will discuss their own research and professors who can provide insights to the contributions of Islamic scholars.
The goal is to highlight the impact of what Muslim and South Asian scientists have contributed, in order to provide mentors and goals to young scholars.
This is also an an effort to counter current narratives of the discrepancy between Science and Islam.
This is also a means of highlighting the importance of study spaces, of group study, and to revive the idea of sharing knowledge.
